All’Oasi Naturalistica Val Grande di Bibione prende vita un nuovo progetto dedicato alla biodiversità e alla gestione sostenibile del territorio: sei puledri sono stati accolti nel cuore dell’area verde per contribuire alla manutenzione naturale del grande prato centrale.
Un’iniziativa che segna un ulteriore passo nel percorso di rigenerazione ecologica dell’area dove natura, ricerca scientifica e turismo sostenibile si incontrano in un modello innovativo di gestione ambientale.
At the Val Grande Nature Reserve in Bibione, a new project dedicated to biodiversity and sustainable land management is taking shape: six horses have been welcomed into the heart of the green space to contribute to the natural maintenance of the large central meadow.
This initiative marks another step forward in the ecological regeneration of the area, where nature, scientific research, and sustainable tourism come together in an innovative model of environmental management.
A New Model for Natural Meadow Management
At the heart of the Nature Reserve lies a meadow spanning about ten hectares, which has been the subject of a careful renaturalization project for years. Following the introduction of beehives to support pollinators and a system of controlled mowing, a new phase is now underway: horse grazing.
The six foals will be tasked with keeping the meadow open and balanced through their natural behavior, gradually replacing mechanical maintenance. This approach reduces environmental impact and promotes the spontaneous development of vegetation.
As the project’s experts emphasize, this is a true ecosystem service: nature takes the lead in its own regeneration, discreetly supported by human intervention.
A decision that took two years to plan
The introduction of the horses was not random. Before they were brought in, a team composed of park rangers and researchers from the University of Udine conducted in-depth studies to identify the ideal conditions and ensure the best possible balance between wildlife, flora, and human activities.
The six horses —three males and three females—come from a local educational farm and bring a youthful, dynamic presence to a natural environment that is already rich and complex.
The goal is clear: to create a stable balance between biodiversity, animal welfare, and sustainable habitat management. This balance transforms the meadow into a living, dynamic, and self-sustaining ecosystem.
A European Project for Biodiversity
The initiative is part of a broader European cooperation program dedicated to the sustainable management of biodiversity. Thanks to collaboration with research institutions and local partners, the Val Grande model is now considered a best practice that can be replicated at the EU level.
