Lignano Sabbiadoro is more than just beaches and the sea. With its pine forests, lagoon, river, and architecture that has shaped the history of 20th-century tourism, the town boasts a landscape, natural, and architectural heritage just waiting to be discovered.
This is precisely the starting point for “Esterno Verde – Oltre Lignano” the new citywide festival dedicated to the history, architecture, and landscape of Lignano Sabbiadoro, scheduled for Saturday, September 5, Sunday, September 6, Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, 2026.
Organized by Interno Verde, the event offers a different way to explore the town through walking tours, guided visits, workshops, storytelling sessions, exhibitions, and opportunities to connect with others. All activities on the program are free of charge.
Discovering Lignano Beyond the Beach
For two weekends, Esterno Verde invites residents and visitors to see Lignano with fresh eyes, venturing beyond the seaside resort’s most well-known spots.
The festival, in fact, spans a much broader and more diverse area: from the lagoon to the sea, passing through the Tagliamento River and the lesser-known corners of the peninsula.
The program explores the different facets of Lignano through itineraries dedicated to its history and urban development, as well as in-depth explorations of nature and the landscape.
There will be walking, biking, and boating tours, as well as guided visits and activities focused on the area’s flora, history, and architecture. This is an opportunity to learn about the transformations that have shaped Lignano, from its earliest settlements of fishermen and farmers to the most innovative architecture of the 20th century.

Marina Azzurra Resort among the venues to visit
Among the special openings scheduled for the festival’s second weekend is Marina Azzurra Resort, the Europa Tourist Group’s houseboat resort on the Tagliamento River.
On Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, visitors will have the opportunity to tour Marina Azzurra and explore its houseboats up close, moored along the Tagliamento River, in a setting where architecture, hospitality, and nature come together.
For Europa Tourist Group, participating in the festival represents an important opportunity to showcase and highlight one of its most unique properties, as well as to help raise awareness of a less conventional side of Lignano and its natural heritage.
Through its inclusion in the Esterno Verde – Oltre Lignano program, Marina Azzurra Resort becomes part of the narrative of a region that continues to experiment with new ways of living and interpreting the landscape.
A festival to discover a different side of Lignano
The program for Esterno Verde – Oltre Lignano allows visitors to explore the town from different perspectives, discovering both well-known and lesser-known places.
Highlights of the second weekend include special open houses at other significant local landmarks, from the Lignano Golf Club to the Ariston Tower, from the first villa designed by Marcello D’Olivo to the stone bridge at the Hotel Marin.
The event will conclude on Sunday, September 13, on Isola delle Conchiglie, where, at sunset, stories and legends tied to the sea will accompany the festival’s final event.
