The Sgarbi collection is exhibited in Portogruaro
Masterpieces that reveal the story of an endless and passionate art hunt
The Cavallini Sgarbi Collection gives to its visitors the intimate atmosphere of a private collection, the result of a passionate art hunt by Vittorio Sgarbi together with his mother Rina Cavallini
Rina Cavallini took part in auctions with her father since young age and immersed herself in the artistic context that is reflected in her entire life. Then she introduced her son Vittorio Sgarbi into the world of art and he accompanied her in the personal search for unique pieces at auctions all over the world.
This wide collection is presented today after years of uninterrupted search as an exciting journey through four centuries of history that began in the second half of the fifteenth century.
From 02/01 to 06/28/2020 the main works of this famous collection will be brought together in an exhibition in the Palazzo Vescovile of Portogruaro. The exhibition, realized together with the Cavallini Sgarbi Foundation, Elisabetta Sgarbi Foundation and the artistic direction by the professional team Contemplazioni, is organized by the Distretto Turistico Venezia Orientale.
Inside the exhibition you can feel the intimate atmosphere of a passionate private collection. Vittorio Sgarbi and his mother Rina Cavallini acquired the works at numerous auctions worldwide. Her “best man”, the art critic recalls his mother in the following words: “She has expanded my way of thinking and my life. I used to give her the name of an artist, the location and the auction house and she, on the other hand, aimed and hit the mark ».
