Discover the culture of Portogruaro and Concordia Sagittaria

Cloudy days are perfect for visiting the nearby town of Portogruaro while sheltering under its porticos. This charming medieval town is only a 20-minute drive from our beaches and will enchant you with its three gateways leading into cobbled streets, historic buildings such as the Town Hall, picturesque canals and ancient watermills.

In addition, you can escape the weather by visiting one of the town’s museums: the Museo Nazionale Concordiese di Portogruaro, which houses Roman finds from the nearby Concordia Sagittaria, and the Palazzo Vescovile, the bishop’s former residence and later a clerical school, whose rooms now host temporary exhibitions of national importance.

Portogruaro borders with Concordia Sagittaria, a small treasure with significant finds from Roman times.
The archaeological jewel of Concordia is the square with the remains of the Trichora Martyrium from the mid-4th century A.D., a building constructed to commemorate the martyrs of Diocletian’s persecution, and the 10th-century St Stephen’s Cathedral.

Below the cathedral, you can visit the remains of the 4th century basilica with its precious mosaics. The square is completed by the late 11th-century baptistery in Byzantine style, inside of which there are well-preserved frescoes and a baptismal font.
